It’s election time!
The Oregon Territory Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists announces its upcoming annual board elections will take place the last week of September.
SPJ Oregon is governed by an eight member volunteer board that meets (at least) monthly and also actively plans events, fundraisers, trainings, an annual conference and helps organize the Region 10 Excellence in Journalism contest.
All members are elected to one-year terms by the active chapter membership. The elected board will determine officer positions of president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.
If you are interested running for a seat on the board of directors, please email us at email@example.com with the subject line: “Board of Directors Candidate.” Candidates must be members in good standing. Please include your SPJ member number, as well as a bio paragraph of no more than 150 words describing your journalistic experience and your interest in serving SPJ Oregon.
The board of directors meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month at a rotating location among media companies. The current rotation has included The Oregonian, Pamplin Media and KGW. Board members outside the Portland area can conference call into meetings.
One of our board members has chosen not to seek re-election, so there will be at least one position filled by a newcomer.
Candidates will be accepted until 5 p.m.Friday, Sept. 22.
A Survey Monkey electronic ballot will be emailed to active chapter members beginning Sept. 25 with a deadline to vote of 5 p.m.Friday, Sept. 29.
Board members will be announced Saturday, Sept. 30in time for the next board meeting on Oct. 12.
If you have any questions — or you do not receive a reply email to your candidacy email – please contact Samantha Swindler at firstname.lastname@example.org or 503-812-8992.
