New contest manager, jobs board, & arrests tracker
Results of our 2021 virtual silent auction and matching donor fundraiser
We're excited to share that we raised about $4,500 from our virtual silent auction and matching donor fundraiser!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the fundraiser. Your donations help SPJ Oregon support journalists in the region, from lobbying to providing grants and training opportunities.
We've hired a contest manager
SPJ Oregon and SW Washington chapters have teamed up to hire a contest manager for the next SPJ Region 10 NW Excellence in Journalism Contest, which opens later this month.
Terry Williams is executive director of the San Diego Press Club and has helped manage contests for SPJ chapters in various cities and states. She brings 20 years of contest managing experience. We look forward to having her help our chapters organize and develop the contest in a way that benefits members across our region.
A jobs/internship board is live
If you have a job or internship opportunity at your workplace, consider sharing it with SPJ Oregon's brand new jobs board webpage. The positions must be based in Oregon or southwest Washington. We will only post positions that offer payment.
The jobs board is still brand new, but it's free to post on!
Tracking assaults and arrests of journalists
SPJ Oregon is collecting data on reporters who have experienced a physical attack or an arrest while reporting in Oregon and southwest Washington.
This information will be used to help us understand the issue and ways to address it. We won't make this information public without explicit permission, but we may use it as summary data.
If you or a journalist you know has been arrested or attacked while reporting, consider reporting it through the tracker.
