We've got our eyes set on early April for the SPJ Oregon 2021 annual conference.
The conference will be entirely virtual this year, which can be a bummer for folks who look forward to the meet-and-greets. But this is also an opportunity to provide training to professional and aspiring journalists who can't normally make the drive to Portland or Eugene.

The SPJ Region 10 NW Excellence in Journalism Contest opens Wednesday, Jan. 27. This competition is one of the largest of its kind in the nation and honors journalists across SPJ Region 10, which covers Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Idaho, and Montana.

SPJ Oregon is governed by an eight member volunteer board that meets at least once a month by phone. The board elects its own president, vice president, secretary and treasurer at the first meeting of the year.

Board members plan journalism trainings and other events, run our annual contest, fundraise to support our lobbyist and guide our advocacy work around press freedom in Salem. Board members have considerable leeway to take on projects of interest to them in service of improving journalism in Oregon. The time commitment is roughly 5-10 hours per month.
