Run for a seat on the SPJ Oregon board!

Help us shape the future of journalism in Oregon and southwest Washington by joining the SPJ board.

It’s never been tougher to be a journalist, but you can make a difference here in the Northwest. Email us a brief 150- to 200-word statement of why you think you should be elected to the board.

Here are some more details if you’re thinking about a run for one of the four two-year seats on the board.

Our nine-member board of volunteers meets monthly to plan events, such as the annual regional contest, training opportunities and fundraisers to fund our lobbying efforts in Salem. You’ll have a hand in deciding which projects we focus on, and which policies we’d like to address to best support journalists in our region.

SPJ Oregon's board also has a seat reserved for journalism faculty members and students. We encourage any college student actively studying or participating in journalism — whether or not your school has a journalism program — to apply for the seat. This board member serves a one-year term.

Board candidate applications are due by 11:59 pm on Friday, Sept. 26.

Voting will begin Sept. 29 and runs through Oct. 3. Elected board members will be onboarded at either our 2025 fall conference in Eugene (more details here) or at our monthly virtual board meeting in November.

The four open seats serve two-year terms and another one-year term seat is reserved for educators and students. Email your statement of candidacy to info@spjoregon.com.
