We want YOU to join the SPJ Oregon board!
Do you want to help shape the future of journalism in Oregon and southwest Washington? Candidate filing for the SPJ Oregon board is NOW OPEN!
Our nine-member board of volunteers meets monthly to plan events, including as the annual regional contest, training opportunities and fundraisers to help pay for our lobbying efforts in Salem and the summer internship we co-sponsor with AAJA-Portland. You’ll have a hand in deciding which projects we focus on and which policies we’d like to address to best support journalists in our region.
This year, four of the eight professional seats are open for two-year terms. We also reserve one seat for journalism faculty members and students for a one-year term.
To apply, email us a brief 150- to 200-word statement of why you think you should be elected to the board, and note whether you’re seeking the education or professional seat. Send your statements to spjoregon@gmail.com.
Board candidate applications are due by 11:59 pm on Friday, Oct. 9.
Voting will begin Oct. 12 and runs through Oct. 16. All SPJ Oregon members subscribed to our newsletter will receive a link to a Google form ballot, so make sure you’re signed up.
Elected board members will be onboarded at either our Nov. 14 fall conference in Portland or at our monthly virtual board meeting in November.
